A Message on Patience When He Takes You The Long Way

Have you ever looked at your life and said, “Lord… this didn’t have to take this long”? If you’ve been praying, waiting, and wondering when the door will finally open, this is a message on patience for you. 

Sometimes God’s “delay” is not denial—it’s development.

The context for our Bible passage speaks volumes. Israel stood at Kadesh-barnea—only eleven days from the Promised Land. But fear and unbelief turned an eleven-day journey into forty years in the wilderness. 

Scripture teaches us to “remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee… in the wilderness.” Deuteronomy 8:2 (KJV)

When you feel like you’re wandering, maybe you’re actually being led by God.

Be Patient: The Long Way Develops You

The wilderness humbles you. It tests your heart. It reveals what’s really inside you. And it builds spiritual maturity that shortcuts cannot produce.

God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

Patience is formed as you’re being taken the long way. God develops who you are becoming on the journey before He releases your destination.

Be encouraged by these Scriptures as you travel the long way:

Be Patient: On the Long Way, God Depends You

God fed Israel with manna daily to teach dependence. They couldn’t stockpile it. They had to gather it fresh every morning.

You need fresh manna today, and every day.

This sermon on patience reminds us that patience is daily trust. You cannot live off yesterday’s provision. You must walk with God today.

Dependence on God is not weakness—it’s wisdom.

Be Patient: Even When God Takes You The Long Way, He Delivers You

The wilderness wasn’t punishment—it was preparation. God was removing what would have destroyed His people in the Promised Land.

God’s detours have divine purpose.

The process qualifies you for the promise. What feels like delay may actually be deliverance.

Romans 8:28 (KJV) reminds us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and keep His commandments. This doesn’t say that all things ARE GOOD. It promises us that God can take ALL THINGS, good, bad and ugly, and work them together FOR GOOD. Nothing can thwart His plan and His purposes. And He is an on-time God, even when He isn’t following the timetable we’d like Him to follow.

The Ultimate Long Way—Jesus and the Cross

Blessings, mercy and grace are waiting for you along the long way.

Jesus took the ultimate long way so we could be saved.

He took the long way to the cross—so you could take the short way to salvation.

Have Patience and Trust God On The Long Way

For believers: Trust God in the waiting. Let patience have its perfect work.

Don’t despise the delay—God is doing a deep work.

For seekers:

Romans 10:9 (KJV) says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Resurrection power can turn detours into destiny.
